How to pick a good photo.

All photos of your pet are precious and all are perfect however not all photos will make good reference imagines. Reference photos are probably the most important thing to get right when sending in a commission order. Without a good photo your artist may struggle to get the amount of detail in that is needed and the end result could be you being disappointed with the outcome. Neither you nor your artist want that. This guide aims to make the process run smoothly and take the guess work out of picking the right photo.

The perfect reference image is a high quality photo in good lighting where all fur and markings can be seen clearly. The colours of your pet need to be represented accurately. lighting can often affect how colours look and so it is important to send the photo that most accurately depicts your pets colouring. If you have any professional photos these make the best reference photos as they are done on high quality cameras and show every detail very clearly. It is often good to send one main image that you would like depicted and then a few other images to help with refining the detail and making the final portrait look exactly like your pet and easier to capture their character.

Often however its not possible to get a high quality photo as the pet my no longer be with us or what camera you can get hold of is limited. In these cases pick the best photo you have for the pose and colouring and then send a couple different photos to help with markings and finer details.

There we go you are all ready to start your commission order and start taking some perfect photos of your pet. Your artist is always more then willing to help you when it comes to finding the perfect reference image and pose so don’t hesitate to contact them!

Example images

The image above is a perfect reference photo. It is of high quality, you can see the horses colour clearly and the eye is very visible. The animal is not in shadow, the light is eliminating all the finer details needed. The pose is great and there is a lot of charter to capture.

The image above is more of a realistic reference photo. The cat is in good lighting, you can see the eyes clearly, the pose has lots of character and you can see details of the fur and markings well, however you do not have the clarity of the professional photo. The shadow is behind the animal and so the lighting is eliminating all markings and meaning the colour is accurate to real life.

The image above is not great. The black dog is in shadow and so no details are showing. The eyes are not very visible and have limited detail to copy. The quality of the camera is not great and so the fur and other details are hard to see. Saying all of that, this photo is workable but you may not get all the detail you would like in the portrait and more photos would need to be sent.

The photo above, of the horse, is very bad and a portrait could not be done from this. The lighting means that the subject is completely in shadow and so no details of the animal can be seen. The colouring depicted in the photo is not true to real life, the pose however is good. The eyes are not visible and neither are any markings the horse may have.

All About the Prints

Art prints are just prints of original art works. Creating an art print makes pieces more affordable and allows many more people to enjoy art. All our prints come with a certificate of authenticity and in limited edition ones the number print you recieved will be clearly written on the back.

The process starts with an artist and often goes to a printing company to be then shipped out to the customer. In our case our artist creates wonderful original art, we then send these pieces to be printed at a printers, that produces very high quality fine art prints. The company we use is Loxley Colour, they make sure that the image is going to represent the original piece of art perfectly and then print on a range of fine art papers. All our prints are done on Hahnemühle William Turner paper. A different paper or canvas can be used on request but prices may vary.

We then receive the print, quality check it, package it so as to protect the artwork and then ship your new art piece to you. All prints are printed to order and so there is a slight wait for your print. This wait means that your print has been quality tested and packaged safely.
